Trial and error are okay for some things, but reviews come to the rescue when your pet is the test subject! Today, we’re reviewing Tropiclean’s Dog Shampoo.
Tropiclean manufactures their shampoo in the US, a plus for some people. Some of the ingredients are internationally sourced, though. This may not be your product if you’re looking for a 100% North American dog shampoo.

The first three ingredients are purified water, mild coconut cleanser, and sodium chloride (salt). Coconut cleansers are popular in dog and cat shampoos. Usually, this ingredient is cocamidopropyl betaine or lauryl glucoside, both derived from coconut oil.

The next two ingredients are colloidal oatmeal and hydrolyzed wheat protein. Colloidal oatmeal is a finely-ground oatmeal powder that’s dissolved in water. Hydrolyzed wheat protein comes from the wheat germ. It’s water-soluble and can pass through the hair follicle for hydration and strengthening. Many pet products have this ingredient.
The final ingredients are a blend of papaya extract, kiwi extract, mango extract, pomegranate extract, yucca extract, chamomile extract, and aloe vera extract.
The remaining 0.7% of ingredients is vitamin E, a fragrance, and a preservative. Unfortunately, we don’t know what the fragrance or preservative is. Only 70% of the ingredients are organic, so if you’re looking for something that is 100% organic, you’ll want to keep searching.
These are great ingredients for the price. The downside is not knowing what the fragrance and preservative are.
It’s easy to get overwhelmed when you’re looking for the perfect pet shampoo. The Hepper Colloidal Oatmeal Pet Shampoo is a great place to start because of its all-natural, pet-safe formula that is pH balanced for your pet’s skin. Made with soothing ingredients like oatmeal and aloe vera, this shampoo is also free of phthalates, sulfates, dyes, and soaps. It will leave your pet clean, moisturized, and smelling like a day at the spa!
At Pet Keen, we’ve admired Hepper for many years, and decided to take a controlling ownership interest so that we could benefit from the outstanding designs of this cool cat company!
Large Bottle Quantity
Usually, pet shampoos come in a 16 fl oz bottle, but Tropiclean’s shampoos come in a 20 fl oz bottle. The price for this shampoo is good enough for a 16 fl oz bottle. However, Tropiclean graciously gives you more product with a longer shelf life of two years. This is a huge plus since some dogs require more shampoo, like larger-sized breeds or dogs with thick coats. This shampoo gives large dog owners an advantage.
Earth Friendly
Tropiclean tries to set a good example for pet products. Their shampoo is cruelty-free, meaning that none of their ingredients, formulations, or final products were tested on lab animals before selling. Plus, half the plastic bottle is made from recycled materials! It’s manufactured in the US, but some ingredients are internationally sourced.
Poor Packaging
The biggest downside to this product is the packaging. This could be because 50% of the bottle comes from recycled materials. Sometimes products manufactured this way prove inadequacy with packing. It’s not just through shipping, either. The bottle cap isn’t very reliable, so you may have to keep the bottle in a Ziploc bag.

So, what’s the verdict for other dog owners? Dog owners love this shampoo. Tropiclean’s dog shampoo smells great in the bottle, but the scent doesn’t last long on the dog. For some, it’s just another shampoo. But most dog owners describe the smell as lovely before and after bath time.

Dog owners also appreciate that their dog doesn’t feel greasy after using this shampoo. Pet shampoos marketed toward animals with dry skin often leave a slippery texture after bath time. Sometimes this is from lack of rinsing, but other times it’s the shampoo. Too much oil, maybe? With Tropiclean’s shampoo, oily fur doesn’t seem to be an issue. Many reviewers received the bottle broken and leaking, which is the worst part of this shampoo. There would be a few more two-star ratings if it wasn’t for fast refunds. The product itself works great, and most reviews who have left bad reviews agree. It’s just the packaging. Check Latest Price
Conclusion
Let’s do a quick recap. Today we reviewed Tropiclean’s dog shampoo. The ingredients in this shampoo are lovely. Most of it is plant-based and organic, but we don’t know the fragrance or preservative. You get a large bottle quantity for an affordable price, and the company strives for environmental responsibility.
Many reviewers received the bottle broken and leaking, which is the worst part of this shampoo. There would be a few more two-star ratings if it wasn’t for fast refunds. The product itself works great, and most reviews who have left bad reviews agree. It’s just the packaging.
The biggest downfall is the packaging. You either risk a broken product upon arrival or deal with a faulty bottle cap until you run out. Overall, it’s a great product! Once they fix the issue with packaging, it’ll be even better.
